starts sunday 2nd december

As we move towards Christmas I would like to invite you to join me for an Advent series of short reflections called “Hopes & Fears”.

Advent is the period before Christmas where Christians take some precious time to anticipate the coming of Jesus – and what it means for us, as followers of Jesus.

Over many centuries Advent has been treated a little like Lent. It has been marked with fasting before feasting, preparation before celebration or waiting for the arrival.

I believe holding to the spiritual discipline of journeying through Advent has something to offer us all. It can be a profoundly moving and beautiful time–if we are willing to create space for it.

Many of us, I suspect, hold secret hopes and fears. We may fear what the future holds for us personally or for our children. We may fear failure or rejection. We may fear life may never get better for us. But rather than focusing on our fears, what if we choose to focus on our hope? Christmas is a time of huge rejoicing, so I am praying you may know joy and have a fresh experience of Jesus’ love for you.

Hope & Fears for Advent will help you be reminded of the coming of the Messiah as being a simple, but powerful moment in the world’s history that still gets the attention all to change lives to bring hope and healing.

Each Sunday you will receive a Advent reflection leading all the way up to Christmas Day.

Meanwhile, Emma and I are praying that Jesus speaks to you much over this season, and you are simply blessed in this special time of year.

Immanuel – God be with you.

What’s in the email?

Each email includes a simple thought with a short passage from the Bible for reflection, along with a prayer. You will also be given some simple fun ideas to do low-risk Christmas acts of random kindness.

How long does it take to do?

It really is up to you. You are in control of your own time. You will just need to plan for it.

Is there a cost?

No! The only cost comes with your own commitment of time.

Can I invite my friends and family to be part of Hope & Fears?

You bet! You can either do it as an individual, a couple, as a small group or with your family or friends.

Do I have to be part of Stour Valley Vineyard?

Oh goodness, no! We love giving away our stuff for free. God has called us to be generous to all. Freely we have received, freely we give, remember? Why not take a chance and forward and share this page, along with your own invitation?

What if I sign up and change my mind?

You can unsubscribe at any time. But don’t quit, because you suddenly feel challenged. It might just be the Lord speaking to you! Try and stick with it!

When does it start and finish?

Glad you asked! Your first email will be sent a week before Advent Sunday, which is on 2ndDecember, to help get you prepared! You will then receive an email each Sunday leading up to Christmas Day itself. Hope you are feeling the love!
